Week 14: Storytelling - Zenforth's King

Castle, Source

There was this strong and family orientated King named Sean. He had an extraordinary wife named Leah. Sean ruled over the kingdom Zenforth. Sean's father had been ruler for many centuries. Zenforth people had known him to be a harsh and short tempered man. As it drew near to the end of Sean's father reign, many feared that Sean would be just a fierce or worse than his father. Growing up, Sean had shown all of the traits of being a vicious king. He was the General of the Army and was often the one who would return home with the most blood on his hands.

Sean came home from winning a huge battle against Benford from the North. All the nobility was invited to a feast on that glorious evening. One side note about Sean was that he was reserved man. All of the young ladies wanted his attention. He would have none of it. However, there was a young woman in the corner of the room sitting down. Sean felt something inside of him completely change when he looked at her. She was Leah. After the party, they snuck away and talked for hours. That night Sean had forgotten about the toils of war and his yearn to conquer. His heart grew warm and he had a desire to empower his people.

Leah and Sean would be married not too many years later. Ever since then they the people of Zenforth had seen a great change in Sean. Once he became ruler, there was a peace that resided over the land. Everything was flourishing. Long held enemies were invited over for feasts. There was one that would not attend these parties that would be Benford. Their hatred goes back further than history can record. On the evening of Zenforth's biggest party, Benford's prince had been scheming to assassinate Sean.

As Sean and Leah went to bed that night an assassin crept through the halls. He lept through the window and shot Leah in the back as they were cuddling. Sean quickly drew his knife and disarmed the man. He knew not to kill as he had changed. However, he looked back and saw that Leah had died. Out of a rage, he took his knife and cut off the head of the assassin. The next morning he had not time for grief as his warrior self had emerged. He sent the head of the assassin to Benford with a message that said, "Prepare for War."

The war between the two kingdom lasted well over five years. The people of Zenforth wanted their old Sean back. They got together and hatched a plan to find him another wife. She needed to be humble and not one of riches. Immediately, they thought of Sarah. She was the kindest. Their plan was hatched and it had worked. Sarah crossed paths with Sean. Instantly, Sean changed back to his calm self. This time around Sean had 100 more guards on duty as he vowed he would never lose another love of his.

Author's note:
I wanted to talk about Shiva! Normally, Shiva is known as the destroyer. However, when he finds a wife his whole being changes to a family man. When he doesn't have a wife, he is not in a place the God's want him to be. It is better for everyone when he is married. I took this simple idea and created a story behind it for a medieval type time.

  1. Hi, Josh. First of all, I liked how you took the characters from the Indian/Hindu mythology and changed them to what I’m assuming is a medieval European-type setting. Your name choice was interesting, because it allowed for me to see the correlation between Shiva and Sean more clearly. My only critique is that you made some grammar and structure mistakes that made the story a little bit more difficult to read and I was also a little bit confused about who some of the characters were. Otherwise, it was entertaining to read.

  2. Great story! The medieval scene has always been one of my favorites. This story would make a great start to a movie or a tv show. I know from personal experience that relationships are often what change people whether it is for better or worse. For the sake of the people of Zenforth I guess it was a good thing it was for the better.

  3. Hi Josh! I really liked your story overall. I think it flowed really well and was easy to follow. You did a good job of making it your own, but also making it really easy to see the original source material. Your image choice was really great because it helped illustrate the setting and you didn't have to spend a lot of time describing the castle. Overall, you did a really nice job.

  4. Hi Josh! First of all, I just wanna say I really like the layout of your website! Your story was very interesting- such a great job! The image you chose fit very well with the medieval aspects of it as well! Your story was written very well and you gave a lot of details to keep the readers intrigued. If there is anything I can suggest to you for improvement, it is to add some dialogue, maybe? Keep up the good work!
