Indian Epics Topics Brainstorm

Devdutt Source: Twitter

  • Possible Topic: Entrepreneurial. It would be extremely interesting to see the business and entrepreneurship ties from these timeless epics into the modern world. There are lesson underlying these stories that we are reading and they should have valuable advice to tell about business. I haven't put on this lens yet to read some of the stories but I know I will do that for this coming week.
          Research so far:
Laura and I had a wonderful conversation on twitter which led to talking about Devdutt Pattanaik . With one of his articles being, Six things to keep in mind when you are stepping into your new role as CEO! I would love to dive into some of his articles and books. It would help me visualize and understand some of these epics since it is my first time reading and encountering this stories. Entrepreneurship has been a huge part of my life so far in college. One of the authors who has had a huge impact on me has been Seth Godin. His writing style and insight combined dish out serious advice and direction.

  •        Possible Topic: Inner Struggle. This topic I would dive deep into the demons of the epics. I'd love to see what motivates and drives them. Also, I want to see what the heroes and characters struggle with in their lives. What is the tension that they deal with that keep them from moving forward. In learning about how they overcome and deal with demons and weakness, I hope it will help me deal with my inner struggles too. I think this could be a piece where I could learn a lot about epics and improve myself (growth mindset!!).
Research so far: I did my first storytelling so far on this. The wiki pages I visited the most were for the demons. If I end up going with this choice, I think that I will reading the pages of the demons and trying to find stories that focus on them. I would love to write a story from their point of view. Maybe there are some comics or storylines that are focus on the main demons. Are there Laura or classmates?
  • Possible Topic: Technology. This is something that has always been a part of my life. It is interesting to think about how I would write about it since there really isn't technology in the sense we understand it in the epics so far. I would have to be specific in what I chose to talk about technology. It would probably have something to do about our use of technology and how it has transformed the world. There would have to be objects or ideas I latch onto in the stories. This could potentially be interesting but I would have to find the right content to write about.
Research so far: This topic was inspired by my first story telling where I was able to bring in a story to the modern era. This idea is the weakest I feel so far of all of them. Simply because as I said above, I am not entirely sure how much content there would be. This isn't a fully developed idea either. This ranks lower than the other two for sure.
  • Possible Topic: Learning. It would be great to learn about the importance of education and learning in the epics. Do they go to school or learn from books. How do they exchange culture and knowledge. There could be pedagogically insight in these stories that might help us to day. I could tie this learning into a technology driven thing as well to see how we could better improve online learning. What a better environment to do that in than an actual online course. I could have a ton of fun with this topic as seeing learning is a passion of mine.
Research so far: I would need help finding a place where they talk about the education of that time and how people learned. I could do a research piece on learning and education within the epics and within the actual time period.
