Favorite Story: Saint Kentigern and the Robin
Kentigern was the focal point in this story. He is: kind, warm hearted, smart, and humble. I admired his determination and unwavering faith. Kentigern was a studious boy even though the other boys resented that. They were jealous of his knowledge. He had a fierce determination to learn. School can either be kindle for our passions or extinguish them. More often than not our dreams and desires are squashed by memorization, and regurgitation.
Another characteristic, he never hated or desired to get revenge on his fellow mates. He just wanted to be accepted and be able to study.
Recurring Characters:
Saint, Jealous or Evil Entity, Animals, Mentor or Elder
Themes:
Healing/Helping others, Going against the norm of the time, Ready to die for the cause
Quotes:
Saint Blaise and His Beasts
"More than all things he longed to learn how to help the creatures that he loved — men and women, the children, the dumb beasts, and everything that suffered and was sick."". For the heathen were jealous of him, and feared that he would make all the people Christians too, when they saw the wonderful cures which his medicines made."
"I am ready, I have long expected you."
"At last of his own free will Saint Blaise walked back to the shore, clothed in light and very beautiful to look upon; for he was ready and eager to die."
Saint Comgall and Mice
"All the mice became enemies of Croadh. And there were many mice in Bangor in those days."The Wonders of Saint Berach
"Then the Saint spoke kindly to the wolf, no longer treating him like a murderer and a thief. "
"But he had an enemy. There was a rich man who wanted the land which Berach had chosen, and who was so envious that he tried to do him spite in every way he could."
"Now when all was done the rich man was bundled away in disgrace, for daring to meddle with the good works of so wonderful a Saint. But Berach was honored and admired."

Ideas/Thoughts:
I enjoyed the connection to nature that each had in their own way. Most of these Saints were stark contrasts to their surrounds. They were healers when it was time to be a heathen. They were studious when it was time to be rebellious. Even when they faced resistance or hatred, they were all steady in their ways. I think that is a powerful message for today. When our media tells us to be consumers and me me me, we can focus on creating for others. Follow our passions to make beauty in a noisy world.
Hi Josh, this is actually for Myth-Folklore, not for Indian Epics... should we try to switch classes for you...? Now is the time to decide: starting in Week 2 the classes diverge, with Myth-Folklore being myths and folklore from around the world, while Indian Epics is about the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Let me know what you want to do; I think it's possible to add a class with instructor permission or something still this week!
